The MA Benchmarks Handbook – Fast Track is for students who began the program as undergraduate Fast Track students.
It is an important tool to guide you through and promote your successful completion of our program. The faculty, professional staff, and administration are available to assist you with policies, procedures, or regulations for UT Dallas.
As you begin your journey, we encourage you to interact with your class peers and faculty members, and meet regularly with your faculty advisor to help enhance and diversify your learning opportunities.

Semester Guidelines
Semester 1: Fall
- Take AHST 6301 (required)
- Take one graduate level AHST seminar (optional)
- Attend EODIAH-organized workshop talks, lectures, gallery visits, and generally participate in the life of the Institute for the duration of the program (follow EODIAH events)
- Mid-Fall semester, register for Semester 2. Available courses can be found in Coursebook
Semester 2: Spring
- Take one or two graduate seminar(s) (depending on your Semester 1 enrollment.) You must take 9 hours total in your first two semesters (including AHST 6301)
- Register for Semester 3: three graduate level seminars (9 hours)
Summer 1
- Consider possible thesis topics, proposal, and committee
Semester 3: Fall
- Take three graduate level seminars (9 hours)
- September: Museum Gallery Talks
- By September 15: choose a Thesis Committee Chair
- Consult the Graduate Catalogue for possible Thesis Committee members
- October 15: Committee Appointment Form due
- October 15: Thesis abstract due to committee (2 pages)
- October 15: EODIAH Travel Funding Request due to Graduate Program Advisor (Heather Bowling). Use the Student Travel Guide to help fill out the application. Travel funding applications must be received at least 6 weeks prior to travel. Travel for Fast Track students to take place between end of Semester 3 and middle of Semester 4.
Semester 4: Spring
- Take three graduate level seminars (9 hours)
- After Spring Break: Reports from the Field
- April 15: Thesis Prospectus due to Thesis Committee
Summer 2
- Thesis research and writing (goals and timeline to be set in consultation with Thesis Committee Chair)
- Internship and/or research travel
Semester 5: Fall
- Take 9 AHST thesis hours
- September 1: first draft of thesis due to advisor
- Apply to graduate by October deadline (date varies, check OGE website), see apply for graduation
- End of October: Thesis defense (full draft due to entire committee at least 3 weeks in advance)
- Read Checklist for Final Submission of Master’s Thesis and follow in its entirety
- End of November: thesis upload by final submission deadline, indicated on OGE website

Forms
Report of Final Examination for Master’s Thesis Form (to be signed by the entire committee.) This form must be submitted to the Office of Graduate Education by the final master’s deadline.
Citation Form to be completed as part of the submission process for graduate students who submit a dissertation or thesis.
Committee Appointment Form requests formal appointment to serve as your supervisory committee.
Travel Funding Request. Travel funding applications must be received at least 6 weeks prior to travel. [Download form as PDF to make fillable]
